In the market you may find radio controlled boats of all shapes and sizes. Toy grade RC boats are considerably slower and typically less powerful as compared to the hobby grade models. Hobby grade RC boats are usually equipped with advanced frequency options and therefore, they are typically faster, stronger, easier to control and more durable. These boats are designed to operate through electric, gas or nitro power motors and they are generally used for racing. It is less important which mode of power is used; the central idea is to build a boat with optimum speed and maneuverability.
The gas (gasoline)remote control boats
The gas RC boats are claimed to be on the top of the list in terms of speed and performance. Engines installed in these boats are especially designed to crank out speed. However, you have to compromise on the large sizes of gas boats, which may be up to 4 feet on an average, because of the larger engines and the gas/oil mixture tanks.
Usually, about 25cc size 2 stroke engines are installed in these boats to give extra power. You can imagine how much power they provide to push the boats through the water. Due to large sizes, they are heavier as well. These boats are built with typically designed hulls and stabilizing features which make them more efficient i.e. continuous performance at high speeds in rougher water surfaces. Other features which may be found in these boats (with a variation of models) are vector-push design for easy controlling, 100% metal activating mechanism for durability, STOP, FORWARD, LEFT, RIGHT thrust control, Aluminum large torsion propellers, clutch equipments, longer aluminum rudder, advance frequency controls of more than 500 feet range, engine cooling system. These boats may reach an optimum speed of 50mph. With the noise, smell and rooster tail; the water that splashes due to the speed of the boat; and the jumping of boat due to any degree of chop on the water; you may feel the essence of real boating.
Fast RC Electric rc boats
Generally, electric RC boats are preferred by the beginners due to many reasons e.g. low prices, easy to control, less maintenance, almost noiseless, etc. But now you can also find some really fast electric RC boats in the market.
Generally 380 or 550 type racing motor is installed in these fast electric RC boats, which are typically designed to generate tremendous power for the racing purposes. Other features which may be found in these modern electric RC boats, with the variation of models, are high capacity rechargeable batteries with quick charger in order to offer extended running time (up to or more than 30 minutes), hard plastic body for making them durable, vector push design, water cooling system, Fiberglass FRP hull material, 100% durable metal activating mechanism, advance frequency controls, and professionally designed twin large torsion propellers. With all these features, the performance and the speed of these boats have increased tremendously. Now you may find some electric RC boats which can run at a speed of around 30mph but it also depends on the water conditions.
The Nitro RC boats
To look at powerful Nitro RC boat sprawling a roaster tail is a treat-to-watch sight, especially for the hobbyists. Although these boats are pretty expensive, still they are very much popular because of their high speeds. An average sized boat can reach speed of 35mph, more powerful models may achieve 50mph speeds, and fully race-models may reach even higher speeds. Generally .15 and .21 marine engines are used to run these racing boats. Some models have engines that are water cooled by running water through the head of the engine and spitting it back in order to prevent overheating while running at high speeds. Some latest models are equipped with complete aerodynamic fiberglass body, professional propeller, aluminum rudder, front and rear differentials, oil-filled shock absorbers, and servo saver linkage systems. These all enhance the performance and speed of the boats.
If you are really concerned about the speed of the RC boats, you may get it in all types of boats i.e. electric, gas and nitro RC boats. Nitro boats offer maximum speeds but one may not neglect the fact that they are generally expensive as far as the prices or maintenance is concerned. Electric RC boats are cheaper and durable and easier to maintain, but they offer slightly lesser speeds. Gas boats are real fast rc boats and on an average seem reasonable when it comes to prices, performance, speed, and maintenance.
